Buffalo vs. Indianapolis | Sunday, November 10, 2024
Things are looking very good in Buffalo at the moment. The Bills are sitting pretty atop the AFC East, with a four-game buffer over the second-place, New York Jets. Josh Allen is in the running for the MVP award, and new signing Amari Cooper has barely gotten going yet. All things point towards this being a very strong year with a potential deep playoff push at the end.
The same cannot be said about their opponents this weekend, the Indianapolis Colts. While Indy is only two games behind the Houston Texans in the AFC South, they are on a two-game losing streak, and the benching of the sophomore quarterback, Anthony Richardson, reflects a franchise that is a long way away from being a finished product.
Richardson made headlines by admitting that he had tapped out of a play because he was tired, but that was not the only problem with his season so far. More injuries have restricted his playing time, and even when he has been on the field, the results have been far from pretty. Richardson has completed just 44.4% of his passes for 958 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions, which is simply not good enough. Completing under 50% of your passes makes it very hard to enjoy any form of offensive production, which is ultimately why head coach Shane Steichen decided to bench Richardson in favor of veteran Joe Flacco.
On the season, the Colts are ranked 22nd in the NFL in both points and yards per game, with 20.9 and 315 respectively, with the best performances coming from Flacco earlier in the year. Unfortunately, he could not do much in Week 9 against the Vikings, leading to the Colts not scoring a single touchdown on offense. Things won’t get much easier this week, going up against a Buffalo defense that has given up the fewest points per game, with 19.2.
On the other side of things, Buffalo is having no such issues, ranking fourth in the NFL with 28.9 points per game, and 15th with 335.2 yards per game. Josh Allen has completed 64% of his passes for 2,001 yards, 17 touchdowns, and just two interceptions, with James Cook and rookie Ray Davis offering very useful support in the run game. Both players are averaging over 4 yards per carry, and have 9 rushing touchdowns between them, in addition to more yardage through the air.
Nothing about this Indianapolis defense should scare Buffalo, with the Colts conceding 383.6 yards per game, which is fourth most in the NFL. They are ranked in the bottom seven for both rushing yards and passing yards conceded per game, so I think it’s fair to say Buffalo will rack up the points in this one.
