Arizona vs. Minnesota | Sunday, December 1, 2024
Week 13 will feature the Minnesota Vikings, who are on a four-game win streak, hosting the Arizona Cardinals. Despite an impressive 9-2 record, the Vikings remain in second place in the NFC North, trailing the nearly unstoppable Detroit Lions. On the other side, the Cardinals are looking to bounce back after having their own four-game win streak snapped in a 16-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last weekend. Despite the setback, Arizona is still in the thick of the NFC West race. With postseason positions hanging in the balance, expect a high-stakes battle between two hungry teams eager to solidify their standings.
The Minnesota Vikings survived a nail-biter in Chicago last week, defeating the Bears in overtime to keep their momentum alive. Sam Darnold was brilliant once again, passing for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns, reflecting a Vikings aerial attack that is top 10 in yards per game with 234. They will do battle with a Cardinals unit this week that is 20th in the NFL with 218.6 yards conceded per game.
That same defense managed to restrict the Seahawks to only 16 points last week, with seven of those points coming from a 70-yard pick-six by Coby Bryant, so not even the defense's fault. Their solid performance kept the game from spiraling further, but the Cardinals will need a much stronger offensive output to stay competitive moving forward. Kyler Murray and his offense managed just 6 points and were held to under 50 rushing yards as a team for the first time this year. This came as a big surprise, considering Arizona are the 6th best rushing team this year with 140.3 yards coming on the ground per game. They will have their work cut out again this week though, going up against a Vikings defense that is giving up the fewest yards (74.7) and rushing touchdowns (0.5) per game.
After reviewing last weekend's game film against the Seahawks, Brian Flores will have his defense well-prepared to face Arizona's dynamic offense. Known for his ability to draw up elite defensive schemes, Flores will also benefit from having a loud home-field advantage at U.S. Bank Stadium. They are giving up just 17 points per game in home fixtures, which is fourth-best in the NFL.
While Justin Jefferson's production has dipped recently, the Vikings have found success elsewhere. Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson have thrived with defenses focusing extra attention on the 2021 Rookie of the Year, stepping up as key contributors in the passing game. Addison hit a season-high 162 yards and a touchdown last week, and will be looking forward to going up against a Cardinals defense that is giving up the 13th most passing yards per game, with 218.6.
