Kansas City vs. Las Vegas - Sunday, October 27
The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into a Week Eight matchup where most fans and analysts are expecting them to pick up a dominant win. They are the only undefeated team left in the NFL at 6-0, and they'll be heading to Las Vegas, who are currently on a three-game losing streak and just lost their All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who is now paired up with his former teammate Aaron Rodgers in New York.
The Raiders suffered a disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week Seven, where Matthew Stafford picked up just his second win of the season. Gardner Minshew, who came in to replace an injured Aidan O'Connell, threw for 154 yards and three interceptions, in what was a miserable day for him all around.
Minshew's performance was highlighted by those turnovers, which included an interception by Jaylen McCollough that sealed the game for the Rams. The Raiders had a chance to close the gap late in the game but were thwarted by mistakes, including a false start that stalled a fourth-and-goal opportunity. Despite rookie tight end Brock Bowers' standout performance with ten catches for 93 yards, the Raiders could not protect the ball, ultimately costing them the game.
The Raiders offense has been a mess this year, finishing in the bottom quarter of the league in almost all statistical categories, including yards per game (296.7), points per game (17.7), and a third-down conversion rate of just 31.11%, fifth worst in the NFL. Unluckily for them, they'll be facing a Chiefs defense that has been absolutely smothering offenses this season, allowing just 17.2 points per game, which is fifth in the NFL.
The Chiefs just won the Super Bowl rematch, taking down Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers once again, and they look like they could be heading back to the big game this season. Patrick Mahomes did have a bit of a rough game, completing 16 of 27 passes for just 154 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions, which resulted in the lowest quarterback rating of his career. Thankfully for Mahomes, he was bailed out by good defense, and an even better run game, which collected a season-high 184 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns for the first time since the 2018 playoffs. Kareem Hunt was a standout performer, rushing for two touchdowns.
Despite being down several starters, the Chiefs still racked up 28 points, improving their average to 24.3 points per game, which is 13th in the NFL. With new signing Deandre Hopkins now bolstering the offense, we should see this average tick up significantly, giving the Raiders defense more to worry about in this game. Considering the Raiders' defense are currently 29th in points conceded per game with 26.1, it feels like there is only one team who can legitimately emerge as the winner here
