The Indianapolis Colts travel to Mile High Stadium in Denver this Sunday for one of the most interesting matchups of the weekend. That statement might surprise you given how both teams look, but the reality is that both are very much in the hunt for the playoffs. The Broncos sit third in the AFC West with a surprisingly good record of 8-5 after their week 13 matchup with the Browns. The Colts, despite being just 6-7, find themselves second in the AFC South, just two wins behind the Houston Texans, although the Texans do have the tiebreaker.

The Broncos are currently riding a three-game win streak and are quickly becoming one of the better teams in the AFC. Their offense, led by rookie quarterback Bo Nix, has been steadily improving and should give the Colt's defense a true challenge. Denver ranks 13th in the NFL in points per game with 23.5 and 13th in touchdowns per game with 2.5. Nix has put together an impressive debut season, throwing for 17 touchdowns on just nine interceptions for the season, with a QBR of 87.9.

Where Nix should be able to attack Indianapolis rather easily is in their secondary. The Colts have allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 70.45% of their passes this season and allow an average of 232.4 passing yards per game. Their run defense isn't much more impressive, allowing 147 yards on the ground per game, second-worst in the NFL, and 4.6 yards per rush. Despite the Colts' defense allowing a total of 379.4 yards per game, fourth worst in the NFL, they have somehow held opponents to just 22.9 points per game, and just 2.5 touchdowns per game. Not great, but seemingly good enough to keep them in the playoff hunt in week 15 in a wide-open AFC South.

The Colt's offense is led by run-heavy quarterback Anthony Richardson, who is hoping to make his first-ever NFL playoff appearance this postseason. Richardson has thrown for just 1,511 yards in nine appearances this season, producing just seven passing touchdowns against nine interceptions. While his numbers may look extremely ineffective, the Colts have a 5-4 record in games that the former Florida quarterback has started in. Richardson will have one of the most challenging matchups of his young career this Sunday against a stiff Denver defense as he looks to make that record 6-4.

The Broncos allow just 18 points per game, third best in the NFL, and allow just 1.8 touchdowns per game, also second in the league. Denver's run defense has been extremely impressive, allowing a league-low .5 rushing touchdowns per game and just 94.7 rushing yards per game to opposing backfields - which is bad news for Richardson. A win for the Colts this weekend could not only inch them closer to the first-place Texans in the AFC South standings, but would also put them just one win behind the Broncos, with a chance to steal their wildcard spot.
