Indianapolis vs. New York Giants | Sunday, December 29, 2024

The New York Giants are now the proud owners of the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, as things stand, fresh off another humiliating loss. This week, they will do battle with an Indianapolis Colts team who are riding high after a rare offensive explosion that saw them score 38 points against the Tennessee Titans.

The excitement surrounding New York’s rookie class, headlined by Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy, is starting to wear off, not because those players are diminishing, but because the team just looks totally lost. Their 34-7 defeat to an Atlanta Falcons team that had previously been struggling to move the ball, and had rookie Michael Penix Junior under center, showed just how much help this team needs.

They rank dead last in points and yards per game, with 14.3 and 292.3 respectively, whilst also ranking in the bottom third with four points conceded per game, with 24.1. They are producing the fourth-fewest passing yards per game, and are ranked 22nd when it comes to running the ball, which perfectly sums up a team that is doing very very little on offense. Thankfully, their opponents this week have been almost equally bad defensively, conceding the fourth most yards per game, at 362.1. The Colts rank in the bottom third when it comes to stopping the run, which perhaps means this is an opportunity for New York to unleash Tyrone Tracy, and let him show off his talent.

Nabers will also fancy his chances, going up against Colts secondary that is allowing completions on 69.59% of pass attempts, which ranks 29th in the NFL. Although, relying on Drew Lock, who has completed is 52.7% of his passes this year for one touchdown and four interceptions, is never ideal.

On the Indy side of things, their fans will have been very relieved to have seen a strong outing from Anthony Richardson, although much of the damage he did came on the ground, taking nine carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. It was Jonathan Taylor who led the way against the Titans, making up for his fumble before the end zone last week, by taking 29 carries for 218 yards and three touchdowns this week. He will be very excited for this week 17 matchup, against a giant defense that is giving up the second most rushing yards per game, with 142.6.

With Richardson also proving to be dangerous with his legs, there should be little need to risk utilizing his arm here, as it is only mistakes on the Colts' side of things that will give the Giants a chance.
