ARMY @ EAST CAROLINA (ARMY -16.5, 52.5)
ARMY (1H) -9.5
East Carolina will face Army for the first time since 2004. During the week, you can bet the Pirates tried to replicate the Black Knights triple option offense. It's much different in person. Army typically gets off to quick starts. Defenses usually need about a half to make adjustments, if they're able to adjust at all.
Army has covered its last five first half spreads in a row. The Knights average 22 points in the first half and they have outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points in the first half. East Carolina has some issues on defense. The Pirates rank 111th in total defense. They are in for a shock early at Michie Stadium on the West Point campus.
NEW ENGLAND @ JACKSONVILLE (JAX -5.5, 42.5)
OVER 42.5
This will be the second straight week for Jacksonville in London. That may give them an advantage in preparation since they didn't have to travel. The Jags were in this exact same spot last year, but they were 5.5-point underdogs. They ended up beating Buffalo.
Both of these offenses leave a lot to be desired. If there is a week when Jags QB Trevor Lawrence is going to turn his season around, this would be a good week. The Patriots rank 29th in defensive DVOA and 24th in opponent passing yards allowed per game.
Rookie Drake Maye will start again for the Patriots. Last week, he threw three touchdown passes and led the Pats in rushing. He did throw two picks, but this week he faces the worst pass defenses in the NFL. The Jags don't rush the passer well either, ranking 31st in pass rush win rate. Maye should have time to throw and Lawrence should have a solid game. Both QBs should affect the total. Two of New England's last three games and three of Jacksonville's last four all went Over the total.
BALTIMORE @ TAMPA BAY (BAL -3.5, 49.5)
OVER 49.5
We have two of the Top 10 scoring offenses in the NFL here on Monday night in Tampa. Lamar Jackson squares off against Baker Mayfield in this one. Remember, Baker went No. 1 in the 2018 draft. Lamar went No. 32.
The Bucs put up 30-plus in each of their last three games. Guess what? So did Baltimore! Plus, the Ravens defense has been gashed over the last two weeks. The Over is 5-1 in the last six games for Baltimore. The Over is 5-2 in the last seven games for Tampa Bay. Both of these offenses are just too good not to score points even though both defenses are pretty good. Look for a 28-24 or 31-28 type of game.
