Dallas vs Washington | Sunday, November 24, 2024
The Washington Commanders will host the Dallas Cowboys this weekend in what is supposed to be one of the most lopsided matchups of Week 12. The Commanders, sitting second in the NFC East with a record of 7-4, are four wins ahead of their division rivals, the Cowboys, who sit at 3-7, third in the NFC East.
The Commanders went 7-2 through their first nine games this season, with rookie sensation Jayden Daniels emerging as a leader in one of the most high-powered offenses in the NFL. Since their 7-2 start, the Commanders have begun the second half of their season on a two-game losing streak, the first of which was a one-point loss to the Steelers, followed by their Week 11 loss to their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. A win against the Eagles would have put the Commanders in first place in the NFC East, but instead, they are now trailing the Eagles by one game, fighting for the automatic playoff berth.
While the Commanders have had a fairytale year thus far into the NFL season, Dallas has done the complete opposite. The only category in which the Cowboys may lead the NFL is the "most underperforming team." Dak Prescott and the Cowboys started the season 3-2 and have since lost five straight games. The Dallas offense has been horrendous, especially on the ground, ranking in the bottom three in the league this season in yards per rush, rushing yards per game, and rushing touchdowns per game. We also found out that the injury Prescott suffered in Week 9 was serious, and the former Mississippi State QB will miss the remainder of the season.
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, Cooper Rush hasn't been much better than Prescott and has helped continue the Cowboys' streak of horror through the air. Dallas is averaging just 6.3 yards per pass—28th in the NFL—and Rush has a QBR of just 28.4 this season. This season, the Cowboys' completion percentage is 62.53%, which ranks as the fifth worst in the entire league.
The Cowboys' defense hasn't been able to help much either, ranking 31st in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game at 151 and ranking 31st in points allowed per game with 29.3. That bodes well for Daniels and the Washington offense, which averages 28 points per game, the fourth most in the NFL. Daniels has the fifth-best QBR in the NFL at 67.6 and has 14 total touchdowns this season. It should also be a big week for Commanders running back Austin Ekeler, who has been one of the best receiving backs in the league this season. Ekeler has 344 receiving yards this year, 89 of which came from the Week 11 loss to the Eagles.
It's hard to believe the Cowboys will be able to snap their five-game losing streak this weekend in Washington in what looks to be a huge offensive game for the Commanders, who have a great shot at returning to their winning ways.
