Gil started Game 4 of the ALCS against Cleveland. He pitched 4.0 innings, allowed 3 hits, and 2 earned runs as the Yankees went on to win 8-6. Gil has been consistent all year long. His home and road ERAs are nearly identical, but there is one thing that is concerning. Gil allowed 1.3 homers per nine innings in home games.
After Gil, the Yankees have a solid bullpen that had a 3.62 ERA during the regular season. During the playoffs, the Yankees relievers have a collective 2.87. The Dodgers bullpen has been evne better in the postseason. The Dodgers’ relievers posted a 3.53 ERA during the regular season. The number has dropped to 3.08.
It looks as though reliever Brent Honeywel will get the start for the Dodgers. Honeywell pitched 4.2 innings against the Mets and gave up six hits and four earned runs. He pitched another game against the Mets and allowed two hits, no runs, but the Dodgers wound up losing both games.
These two teams finished No. 2 and No. 3 in MLB in scoring this season. The Dodgers have totaled 14 runs so far in the World Series while the Yankees have managed just five. They failed to score last night. Aaron Judge is just 1-for-12 in the series and he’s batting just .150 in the postseason. New York’s bats will have to come alive tonight or their season will end prematurely.
The Dodgers are now 6-1 in their last seven games. They have won 9 of their last 11 road games and 6 of the last 7 on the road against the Yankees. New York has lost 4 of its last 6 games.
