The 12-2 Philadelphia Eagles will head to Northwest Stadium this Sunday for one of the most anticipated matchups of the weekend. Waiting for them will be rookie sensation Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders, who could be considered one of the Eagles’ biggest threats in not just the NFC East but the entire NFC. The Eagles have already clinched a spot in the playoffs, riding a league-best ten-game win streak, and are favored to make it eleven this weekend. The Commanders are currently in the NFC playoff picture, but they haven't clinched their spot just yet. If the Commanders win, they are predicted to have a 94% chance of making the playoffs, but if they lose, that number drops to 77%.
This one should be an excellent offensive showcase, with two of the league's best scorers going head-to-head. In his first season in the NFL, Jayden Daniels has transformed this Commander's offense into an absolute powerhouse. They average 373.9 yards of total offense per game, which is the fifth-best in the NFL, while putting up an average of 38.3 points per game, which is the sixth-best in the NFL. Daniels and the Washington offense have a completion percentage of 70.64%, third best in the NFL, and average an impressive 7.8 yards per pass. Their rushing attack has been superb as well, ranked in the top five in yards per rush with 4.9, rushing yards per game at 155.5, and rushing touchdowns per game at 1.6. Their lead running back Brian Robinson Jr. has been extremely effective, rushing for 705 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. Jayden Daniels has also added 656 yards on the ground to go with six rushing touchdowns, proving himself as one of the most dangerous all-round weapons the NFL has to offer already.
The Commanders' defense has not been great, especially defending the run. They allow an average of 132.1 rushing yards per game, 25th in the NFL, and 4.8 yards per rush this season. They'll have their biggest test of the year this Sunday when they try to stop one of the best running backs in the NFL, Saquon Barkley.
Barkley has had a monstrous year for the Philadelphia Eagles, with nine games recording at least 100 rushing yards, including a 255-yard outburst in week 12 against the Rams. Barkley leads the league with 285 carries and 1,688 yards on the ground. With three games left in the season, the former Penn State star will have a chance to be just the ninth running back in NFL history to hit the 2,000-yard mark in a single season.
The Eagle's defense has a chance to prove they are the flat-out best in the league this weekend if they can slow down the Commanders. So far this year, they have been very impressive, allowing just 6.1 yards per pass and 13.4 passing yards per game, ranking first in the NFL in both categories. They allow just 17.6 points per game, also No. 1 in the league, and allow the least amount of yards per game this season at just 275.6.
The Eagles enter this one as slight favorites on the road (-3.5), in what could be an NFC playoff preview.
