Giants vs Panthers (NYG -6.5 O/U 40.5)

New York vs. Carolina | Sunday, November 10, 2024
It may have only been the New Orleans Saints, but dare I say that Bryce Young looked good last week. He completed 61% of his passes for 171 yards, one touchdown, and one interception last week, with the interception actually coming on one of his best throws of the day, only for it to be ripped out of Xavier Leggette’s arms by the defender. It was great to see the struggling sophomore quarterback lead a game-winning drive and celebrate at the end of the game, but things will not be as easy this week against the New York Giants.
The Giants are middle of the pack when it comes to points conceded per game, ranking 15th with their 22.4, but they are leading the league with 35 sacks, thanks mainly to having the unbelievable Dexter Lawrence at the heart of the defensive line. Despite being a defensive tackle, Lawrence is second in the league with nine sacks this year, with every other member of the top five doing their damage from the defensive edge position. It really is unbelievable what he’s doing, and the Panthers' offensive line will have to keep him away from Bryce if they are to have any chance this week.
Young is having to operate without Diontae Johnson now, who has been traded to the Baltimore Ravens, but there have been signs of life from the Panthers’ rookie receivers. Xavier Leggette has caught a touchdown in three of his last four appearances, and undrafted rookie Jalen Coker has over 100 yards and one touchdown across his last two appearances. This pass-catching group is still a long way from what you would want from an NFL offense, but there are at least a few pieces to be excited about. They will be looking to rack up yardage this week against a New York defense that is giving up completions on 70.8% of passes, which is second worst in the NFL.
When the Giants have the ball in hand, who knows what to expect? Daniel Jones can be dangerous one week and downright incompetent the next, but he’s at least coming off a solid outing in which he completed 77% of his passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns against an up-and-coming Commanders defense. He should be looking at this week as an opportunity to start building some momentum. At this point, Carolina can barely be considered an NFL defense, ranking dead last in both points and yards conceded per game, with 32.6 and 391.9, respectively.
Offenses are frankly able to do whatever they want against them, so this should be another strong outing for Daniel Jones and a great opportunity for the Giants' exciting young rookies to show what they can do. Malik Nabers has already proven that he was worth the sixth overall pick, and fifth-round running back Tyrone Tracy has proven to be another exciting find. Those two rookies are in a great spot to rack up yardage this week.
