Paul George (76ers) OVER 17.5 Points
There is a ton of NBA Play-in tournament value on the board. Group play commences and we start out by taking Paul George to go OVER 17.5 points. I think this line tells us a story and speaks volumes. PG is averaging just 14.3 PPG this season and oddsmakers post his O/U 3.2 points higher than his average. The storyline is that Joel Embiid is back and so everyone thinks he’ll take over. That’s fine but his presence will actually free up Paul George offensively and that’s why this line is telling us to take the over. Plus, it’s Paul George. He’s going to shoot better than 16% from three which where he’s at so far. Every year since 2015 he has averaged 21 points or more. I love this play against the Knicks at home as a statement game for Paul George in a Sixers uniform.
Clint Capela UNDER 11.5 Points
For free play #2 I want you guys to take Clint Capela of the Hawks to have UNDER 11.5 Points. He’s coming off his biggest output of the season, a 20-point game against the Bulls. But Chicago’s defense is among the worst in the league, particularly interior D. Capela is only averaging 10.5 PPG this season and I like the fade here because he’s averaging the least minutes, shot attempts, and point production since 2015. Lastly, in his one game against the Celtics this year he had just 2 points and Boston’s defense is literally #1 in the NBA against the center position specifically. We don’t think Capela gets to double digits tonight. Lock this one in and take Clint Capela UNDER 11.5 points!
Jeremy Fears Jr. (Michigan State) UNDER 6.5 Assists
Jeremy Fears Jr. is an extremely talented Redshirt Freshman for Tom Izzo’s Michigan State Spartans. Fears has shown the ability to pass the basketball by dishing out 8 assists in each of the first two games. Tonight there is a massive jump in competition as the Spartans travel to Atlanta to take on the Kansas Jayhawks in the Champions Classic. Kansas is the number one team in the country and has taken their weakness from last year and made it into their strength. The Jayhawks are one of the deepest teams in the country, allowing them to fly around on defense. Kansas is coming off a 92-89 win over the Tar Heels. Kansas loves to run and so does UNC, but Izzo likes to slow the game down limiting possessions. The Spartans rank 293rd in the country in tempo. We believe this line is inflated due to the hot start for Fears and the total from the Kansas-UNC game. Fears has 3 fouls in each of the first two games, while only logging 21 minutes per game so foul trouble could be an issue for him as well. Take the under 6.5 Assists tonight!
