Jacksonville Jaguars @ Houston Texans

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be desperate to put Monday nights nightmare behind them, having been dreadfully embarrassed at the hands of Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

Whatever’s going on in Jacksonville, something is seriously wrong, and now 0-3, the pressure is already on for the coaching staff. Head coach Doug Pederson of course deserves his respect, he’s a Super Bowl winning coach, but his dedication to Press Taylor as the teams offensive coordinator is causing very real issues within the franchise.

Trevor Lawrence somehow looks worse this year than he did with Urban Meyer as his head coach, and this is not the start the Jags were looking for with him playing on a brand new five year $275 million dollar contract.

Jacksonville’s 13.3 points per game puts them 30th in the NFL, while converting on just 21% of third downs (30th), and scoring 1.8 touchdowns a game (28th). They’re 31st in completion percentage, 29th in yards per pass, 27th in passing yards per game and losing the turnover battle in every game.

And no it isn’t all on Trevor Lawrence, but the cracks are starting to show, and they’ll now face what presents itself as big brother in the Houston Texans in Week 4, on the road. They’ll want to get back on track desperately over the next couple of weeks before they make the trip to London, but two division rivals stand in their way, and Houston are up first.

The Texans had a rude awakening of their own in Week 3, being stifled to just 7 points in a tough 34-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Cj Stroud was picked off twice, throwing multiple picks in a game for just the second time in his career, having thrown five in all of last season. Some of that falls on the lack of a run game, which the Vikings totally took away early, and Houston never recovered.

Without Joe Mixon they were going to struggle anyway, but Cam Akers led the team with nine rushes for 21 yards, averaging 2.3 yards per carry. Stroud and the offense were 4/14 on third down, and the latest victim to fall short against Brian Flores Minnesota defense.

On the plus side, Houston themselves have been defending the pass extremely well, allowing just 58% completion percentage (3rd), and 163 passing yards per game (6th). Between the pressure upfront, ranking 3rd in sack percentage, and the impressive coverage, their defense will be a problem for Press Taylor and the Jags offense this coming weekend.
