Jets vs Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins will host the New York Jets this Saturday in an AFC East rivalry game where the Dolphins are desperate for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Dolphins are five games behind the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East, with no shot at winning the division after dropping both games against Buffalo, and need a win to stay in the hunt for an AFC wildcard spot. While Jets fans are probably just looking forward to the 2025 draft with just three wins, they do have a chance to spoil the Dolphins' playoff hopes this weekend.
In week 13, the Dolphins had their three-game winning streak snapped by Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. Although Miami only posted 17 points in the outing, Tua Tagovailoa looked great, continuing his good run of form. Tua threw for 365 yards with 37 completions on 46 attempts, and two touchdowns with no interceptions. The Dolphins certainly have a playoff-caliber offense with their starting quarterback in the lineup, and according to NFL.com, has a 15% chance at sneaking into the postseason with a win over New York.
The Jets on the other hand are trying to snap a three-game losing streak, and have lost eight of their last nine. It won’t be easy for Aaron Rodgers to put up enough points to knock the Dolphins out of the playoffs, as the Jets currently have one of the least efficient offenses in the entire league. They rank 26th in points per game at just 18.8, and rank second worst in the league in yards per game with just 291.1 yards of total offense per game.
While the Jets have a young superstar in Breece Hall, their backfield has been underwhelming this season, ranking 29th in rushing yards per game with just 87.3 and averaging just .5 rushing touchdowns per game. While they haven’t been moving the ball on the ground nearly as much as they have been through the air, their passing numbers aren’t great either. The Jets have a completion rate of just 62.76% and rank 29th in the NFL in yards per pass at 6.2. They have only thrown the ball for an average of 204 yards per game, not nearly enough to compensate for their lack of yardage on the ground.
Unfortunately for the Jets, the Dolphins pass defense has been great this year. Miami ranks top-ten in the NFL in passing yards per game allowed (203.9) and opponents yards per pass (6.8). They also allow just 311.4 total yards per game, seventh best in the league. Everything points towards a big Miami win this weekend, as the Dolphins open up as six-point favorites at home.
