NUGGETS VS. LAKERS 4/27/24
The Denver Nuggets have the opportunity to eliminate another step on their path to possibly winning back-to-back titles tonight when they travel to play the Los Angeles Lakers. The Nuggets defeated the Lakers 112-105 on Thursday to take a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference first-round series. For the third time in the series, Denver was behind at the half and once again demonstrated its ability to come back from behind.
For the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and 9 assists, but this is by no means a one-man show. Along with grabbing 15 rebounds, Aaron Gordon scored 29 points. Michael Porter Jr. scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Jamal Murray added 22 points.
After trailing 53-49 at the half, Denver took a double-digit lead just seven minutes into the third quarter. With 3:02 left, the Nuggets were up by 15. They also stopped the Lakers' late comeback attempt by making six free throws in the final 1:06.
In Game 1, the Nuggets led by three points at the half and won by 11. In Game 2, Denver was down by 15 at halftime but rallied for a two-point victory.
The Nuggets defeated their Western Conference rivals for the 11th time in a row in Game 3 as they maintained their dominance over the Lakers. A victory on Saturday would give Denver consecutive playoff sweeps over Los Angeles.
The Lakers can start planning for the offseason now, according to history. In 151 attempts, no team in an NBA playoff series best-of-seven has ever come back from a 0–3 deficit. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are more concerned with narrowing their focus for the future than they are with creating history. They just want to force a Game 5.
In Game 3, James finished with 26 points and nine assists, while Davis scored 33 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Austin Reaves added 22 points. D'Angelo Russell shot 0-for-7 from the field and 0-for-6 from three-point range in 24-minutes, failing to score a single point.
