Green Bay vs. Chicago | Sunday, November 17, 2024

As if the Chicago Bears fan base hadn’t suffered enough, this 2024 campaign, which was meant

to be filled with hope and promise, is as dark and dreary as ever. Ever since their bye week, the

offense has been completely stagnant and incompetent, with Caleb Williams being sacked 15

times over the last two weeks. Even on the snaps where he isn’t taken to the ground, there is

very little to cheer for, with no easy passing options ever materializing and a few too many

wayward passes being sent out.

A loss to the woeful New England Patriots, in which Chicago only put up three points, always

looked like it was going to lead to changes, and those changes arrived in the form of the firing of

offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Thomas Brown is the new man calling the plays.

Unfortunately, it does not look like there will be any respite for the Bears any time soon, with the

Green Bay Packers up next, fresh off their bye week. The Packers are just outside of the top 10

for both points and yards conceded per game, and they will have spent all of their week off

preparing to dismantle the worst offensive line in the NFL. Chicago is ranked 30th in the NFL

with 277.7 yards per game, averaging under 20 points per game, and it’s hard to see these

numbers improving this week against a good Green Bay side.

The Bears' defense has at least been performing better, ranking inside the top 10 for points

conceded per game, with 18.6. This is undoubtedly the strength of their team, but a key

vulnerability has been exposed in recent weeks: their run defense. The Patriots racked up 144

yards on the ground in Week 10, one week after the Arizona Cardinals posted a whopping 213

yards against them in their win. That should put fans on high alert, considering the Green Bay

Packers are one of the best rushing teams in the NFL, averaging 154.8 yards per game, which

is third-most.

Josh Jacobs is the man doing the damage, averaging 4.8 yards per carry so far this season,

with 762 yards and three touchdowns. Expect Green Bay to rely on him here to help them

control time of possession and the game in general.

Chicago has been much better against the pass, ranking seventh in the NFL with just 190.4

yards conceded per game. That won’t phase Jordan Love, though, who is playing without fear

this year. In just seven games played, he has passed for 1,820 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10

interceptions, proving that he is more than willing to give his talented receivers a chance. The

Packers' 235.2 passing yards per game also rank inside the top 10, emphasizing what a

daunting offense they are to go up against.

Add in the fact that they are well-rested off their bye and that vibes are at an all-time low in

Chicago, and it’s hard to see any result here other than a Green Bay victory.
