Packers vs Titans 9/22/24
This weekend Malik Willis and the Green Bay Packers will travel to Tennessee, where the now Packer will visit the team that just traded him before the season began. That said, Jordan Love is back at practice following a scary looking knee injury, but his status for the weekend is not yet known.
If Willis starts, he will face the quarterback that took his job, eventually resulting in the trade away from the Titans. Willis led the Packers to a win at the weekend, beating the Indianapolis Colts at home despite having only been with the franchise for a matter of weeks.
While they got the win, it was far from the cleanest of games, and there’s no doubt the offense operates a lot better under Jordan Love’s command. If they’re without him, we could be in for another messy Titans matchup, in line with the first two games of their season so far.
Will Levis is capable of making great plays. He has the prototypical size and frame of an NFL starter, and his mobility is often overlooked too, but the season he’s had up until this point is only remembered for two plays, both of which were extremely costly errors, turning the ball over by making a bad play worse.
Head coach Brian Callahan was visibly frustrated with Levis when he did the very thing that cost the Titans the win in Week 1 a second time against the Jets, a game they also eventually lost. Now 0-2, unfortunately those losses have a lot to do with the quarterback's mistakes.
Tennessee is in the lower third in all of the major offensive categories, with a disappointing 17 points per game (24th), 4.5 yards per play (27th), and 33% red zone scoring (24th). The run game efficiency is propping up a lackluster pass game, but the Titans are still favored by two points here, with Jordan Love currently expected to need more time before returning to the field.
The Titans are 0-2 against the spread and are yet to cash an over so far this season. A struggling offense needs a confidence boost, but they’re unlikely to get it against a very impressive Packers pass defense so far this year, allowing just 3.9 yards per pass play (2nd), and a 54% pass completion percentage (2nd).
Green Bay might be the underdog, but they had every chance to beat the Eagles in Week 1, and arguably should have done. Then despite the adversity of the injury to their quarterback, they did get their first win at home. If that defense shows up against Tennessee, we could be in for a low scoring affair between two QBs who once shared a film room with the Titans…
