The Panthers enter their Week Seven matchup with the Commanders with a 1-5 record, sitting dead last in the NFC South. The Commanders, off to one of the most impressive starts in their franchise's history, boast a 4-2 record and are at the top of the NFC East.
Carolina, who once again showed signs of life on offense in Week Six against the Falcons, failed to perform on the defensive side of the ball. Their run-stopping ability has been poor, allowing a combined 200 yards to Allgeier and Robinson last week in the 38-20 loss to the Falcons. The Panthers' defense allows the third-most rushing yards per game in the entire NFL, with 153.5. It seems like offenses around the NFL have noticed this and have been exploiting it, as opponents rush an average of 34.2 times a game against Carolina, which is the most in the league. They've also allowed the most rushing touchdowns per game, with two per week, including two last week to Robinson and one to Allgeier.
While Andy Dalton and the Panthers' passing game has been back and forth, one thing that has stayed consistent is their running game. Chuba Hubbard has been carrying this Panthers' offense, averaging over 80 yards per game and leading the team to an average of 4.7 yards per rush, good for ninth in the NFL. The offense the Panthers will be facing this week is levels ahead of theirs, as the Jayden Daniels-led Commanders have been one of the most impressive and unlikely stories of the 2024 season.
Although Washington lost to the Ravens last week, and their offense didn't look as lively as in previous weeks, there's no question that Daniels is still one of the most dangerous players in football. Daniels threw for 269 yards with two touchdown passes to Terry McLaurin, but the Washington defense allowed 484 total yards to the Ravens, resulting in a 30-23 loss.
On the injury front, the Commanders will be down a few men on their defensive line in Week Seven. Defensive tackle Jonathan Allen was ruled out early in the fourth quarter against the Ravens with a pectoral injury, defensive end Dorance Armstrong left the game in the second quarter with a rib injury, and Clelin Ferrell also missed his fourth consecutive game due to a knee injury.
Luckily for the Commanders, their explosive offense may be able to do most of the heavy lifting. They'll be facing a Panthers' defense that has allowed the most points per game in the NFL this season (33.8) and the most touchdowns per game across the league (4).
