UCF has defied all odds in this tournament. The Knights came in minus their best player, Keyshawn Hall, who entered the transfer portal. Hall was the leading scorer in the Big 12 this year. UCF also had 6 other players in the portal. They were supposed to be shorthanded but no one told Darius Johnson. The guy has been an absolute beast in this tournament. He had 42 points in yesterday's semifinal win over Villanova. He also had 31 in the win over Cincinnati.
Today, Johnson goes up against a Nebraska defense that has played well in this tournament. The Huskers gave up 69 to both Georgetown and Boise State in their last two games. For the season though, Nebraska has allowed nearly 78 points a game in road and neutral site games.
UCF will try to run Nebraska into the ground. The Knights rank 5th in the country in possessions per game. They like to play fast and they have put up a bunch of points in their last two games. Yesterday's went to overtime (104-98), but UCF scored 88 in regulation. For the season, UCF averages 80.1 ppg.
Both teams have been nailing threes as of late. Yesterday, both Nebraska and UCF were on fire from deep. UCF hit 15-of-35 threes in the win over Villanova. Nebraska shot 12-of-19 from behind the arc in a 79-69 win over Boise State, the favorite to win the Crown Tournament.
UCF will push the pace. Brice Williams (20.4 ppg) and Juwan Gary (14.4 ppg) can play along and push right back for Nebraska. The Over has cashed in 4 of UCF's last 5 and in 7 of the 8 neutral site games they've played this season. I think both teams end up in the 80s today.
