NEW MEXICO STATE @ FIU (FIU -9, 43.5)
FIU -9
It's another Conference USA Tuesday night clash. I'll be honest. These C-USA games have been tricky so far this season. Here's the deal with this one. New Mexico State has been awful on the road this season. They played three games away from home and they've given up 48, 31, and 54 points. On offense in those games, the Aggies put up 0, 11, and 13 points.
The New Mexico State defense is a mess. The Aggies rank 127th in scoring defense, allowing opponents 40.5 points per game. FIU isn't that much better; however, they are playing at home. Nine points is a little scary to lay on a 2-6 team, but with how bad New Mexico State has been on the road I'm back the home team.
LOUISIANA @ TEXAS STATE (TXST -4, 58.5)
TEXAS STATE (1H) TEAM TOTAL OVER 14.5
Texas State has one of the better offenses in the country, though they did stumble last week and got beat by Old Dominion 24-14. It was the first time all season that the Bobcats didn't hit their 1H team total. Texas State was shutout in the first half by the Monarchs.
That is not happening tonight against a Louisiana defense that has some issues up front and some serious issues in the red zone. The Cajuns haven't stopped anyone in the red zone this season. Opponents have scored 100 percent of the time they have reached the red zone.
Texas State typically starts fast as defenses have to play catch up to the Bobcats offense. Texas State averages 22.2 first-half points per game. That's the sixth-best number in the country. Tonight's first half team total for the Bobcats is 14.5. Texas State has gone Over that number in 6 of its 7 games this season and they hit it tonight against a subpar Louisiana defense.
LA DODGERS @ NY YANKEES (NYY -150, 8.5)
LUIS GIL OVER 1.5 EARNED RUNS
The Dodgers can complete the sweep of the Yankees with a win in New York tonight. Twenty-four teams opened the World Series 3-0. Twenty-one of them completed the sweep. The Dodgers will go with a bullpen game to try and get the win. Brent Honeywell will start.
On the other side, the Yankees will go with right-hander Luis Gil. He's the focus of our pick. Gil has started one postseason game - Game 4 of the ALCS. That start, like tonight's, came after a long layoff for Gil. In that start against Cleveland, Gil pitched 4 innings and gave up 2 earned runs. In his last three starts, he has allowed at least 2 ER in each and 12 total.
Against the Guardians, Gil struggled with command in the first inning. Tonight, he'll face a lineup that is even tougher than Cleveland's. Gil faced the Dodgers back in June. They got to him for 3 earned runs and I think they get to him again tonight.
