The Marlins won the first game of this series last night. Tonight, they will put Edward Cabrera on the mound. He has struggled some this season. Cabrera is 0-1 with a 6.52 ERA. That is probably the reason why Cincinnati is a slight road favorite here.
The problem for the Reds, though, is their starting pitcher. Cincy will go with Nick Martinez, who is struggling even more than Cabrera. Martinez is 0-3 with an even 6.00 ERA. One look at his expected numbers and you'll see that his xERA is 5.28. Cabrera's xERA is 3.97.
Until he proves otherwise, I will continue to fade Martinez and the Reds. Cincinnati has lost all four of his starts this season. In all four of those starts, Martinez has allowed 3 or more earned runs.
iami is not known as an offensive powerhouse, but they have found a way to manufacture some runs more recently. Over their last three games, the Marlins have scored 23 runs. That includes 6 in last night's 6-3 win. Miami also plays better at home. The Marlins average 4.69 runs per game at loanDepot Park.
Martinez will only get about 90 pitches max tonight, but it'll be enough for the Marlins to get to him for a few runs.
