The Mariners actually have two Luis Castillo's on the roster and both happen to be pitchers. We don't want to confuse Luis F. with Luis, who is a bona fide ace on the Mariners staff.
Luis Castillo is 1-1 this season with a 2.12 ERA. Last year, Castillo ended up 11-12 with a 3.64 ERA. His career ERA is 3.54. Luis F. Castillo last pitched in the majors in 2022 with the Detroit Tigers. He was a last-minute addition as the starting pitcher against San Francisco last Friday. He lasted three innings and gave up 6 hits, 2 walks, and 3 earned runs. As a result, his season ERA is now 9.00.
Brown has two quality starts under his belt already this season. He is 1-1 with an even 3.00 ERA. Brown pitched 6 innings in each of his first two starts in 2025 and allowed 3 ER in each game. He struck out 7 in a 3-2 loss to the Mets then came back and struck out 8 in a 5-2 win over the Twins last Thursday.
Brown has strong numbers against the current Mariners lineup. In 100 plate appearances, Brown has a 32 percent strikeout rate against Seattle. Last season, he started four games against the Mariners. In 22.1 innings, he gave up just 4 ER - that's an ERA of 1.61 - and he struck out 27 batters. Brown gives Houston the advantage today.
