Las Vegas vs. Miami | Sunday, November 17, 2024
Fresh off their bye week, the Las Vegas Raiders are heading to sunny Florida to tackle a Miami
Dolphins side that just earned a much-needed victory over a tough LA Rams team. It wasn’t
pretty, but the Dolphins got the job done, and now have a sliver of hope that they can keep their
season alive. The Las Vegas Raiders are a good team for them to have up next, given that they
firmly fit into the category of teams whose seasons are already over.
Miami should look at this game as a great opportunity to get their offense firmly back on track,
with the Raiders giving up an average of 27.9 points per game, which is 30th in the NFL. They
are beatable on the ground, ranking 22nd, with 129.9 yards conceded per game, and while they
are much better against the pass from a yardage perspective, ranking 11th, you’d fancy Tyreek
Hill and Jaylen Waddle to find a way to get the job done. Hill has been surprisingly quiet this
year, failing to surpass the 80-yard mark in each of his last eight games. Obviously, Tua
Tagovailoa missing time because of his concussion didn’t help, and he recently admitted that
he’s also been hampered by a wrist injury.
Jaylen Waddle has also disappointed, racking up only 367 yards from his nine games played,
but this clash with the dismal Raiders really does give him and this Miami offense an opportunity
to build some momentum for the second half of the season. Las Vegas is allowing a completion
on 67.5% of pass attempts against them, which is only good enough for 24th in the NFL. So,
come on Miami, let’s see that explosive offense that we were all expecting.
The Raiders are also struggling for explosive plays on offense, and it’s very hard to see where
they will come from moving forward. They are currently ranked 25th in the NFL with 18.7 points
per game, and 29th in the NFL with 280.2 yards per game. That doesn’t bode well going up
against a Miami defense that’s playing surprisingly well given how many injuries they are
dealing with. They are fresh off a game in which they stifled an extremely talented LA Rams
offense that had its full complement of playmakers. Matthew Stafford and company were unable
to register a single touchdown, with the team having to rely on their kicker to put up points.
There are two main issues for the Raiders. Firstly, their 76.9 rushing yards per game ranks dead
last in the NFL, removing any chance of them establishing any control on offense. The second
problem is the almost equally underwhelming quarterback play we are getting, with Gardner
Minshew posting 1,501 yards, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions from his eight games
played. It’s just not good enough, and it’s hard to see them succeeding against a Miami defense
that is ranked 12th against the run, allowing 114.4 yards per game, and eighth against the pass,
with 191.3 yards allowed per game.
Frankly, the Raiders are already counting down the days to the offseason, when they can
continue their rebuild and hopefully find a quarterback and running back that will allow them to
offer any sense of a threat on offense. The one glimmer of hope they do have is their rookie
tight end, Brock Bowers, who is clearly a superstar in the making, having already posted 580
yards, which leads all tight ends. For Las Vegas fans, Bowers' weekly development at least
offers something to cheer for, until they can switch their attention to the rebuild in the offseason.
Miami should get their second win in as many games here.
