Los Angeles vs New York

The Los Angeles Rams will hit the road this weekend to take on Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. The Rams are currently riding a three-game win streak and sit atop the NFC West with a record of 8-6, as their playoff chances went sky-high after beating the 49ers in week 15. The Jets are looking to start a winning streak of their own after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 15, a win that snapped their four-game losing streak. While the Jet's playoff chances have vanished, similar to many teams we'll see in action this week, they still have the chance to help spoil another team's playoff hopes, or improve their draft odds.

The New York Jets have had one of the most underwhelming seasons in the entire NFL, performing far worse than most expected, even with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers under center. With a quarterback of that caliber, one would expect the Jets offense to be their strong suit, but unfortunately, it has been far from that. New York ranks just 22nd in points per game with 20.2, and ranks 24th in the NFL in total yards per game with just 307.

Rodgers has thrown 23 touchdowns with just eight interceptions, which looks great, but may simply be a result of their pass-heavy offense. The Jets throw the ball an average of 35.4 times per game, which is the eighth most in the NFL, while rushing the ball just 21.4 times per game, which is the least of any team in the entire league. They also average just .6 rushing touchdowns a game, 29th in the NFL. The Jets offense has a completion percentage of just 62.7% and has an average of 217.8 passing yards per game, both ranking in the bottom half of the league.

Luckily for the Jets, their defense has been able to compensate slightly, and they should give them a fighting chance against the Rams this weekend. New York allows just 193.9 yards per game, fifth best in the NFL, and allows a completion percentage of just 62.59%, sixth best in

that category. While they do allow 1.3 rushing touchdowns per game, 27th in the NFL, they only give up 4.1 yards per rush, sixth best in the league.

That defense will face off against a Matthew Stafford-led offense, that before last week, has looked great. Los Angeles failed to score a touchdown in their 12-6 victory over the 49ers in week 15, but prior to that, has looked electric. The Rams rank in the top ten in the NFL in passing yards per game (232.1) and touchdowns per game (2.6), and have held defenses to a QB sack rate of just 5.66%, seventh best in the NFL.

Their defense has been somewhat of a liability, and they will certainly need to step up their game if they want to stop Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and budding superstar wide receiver Garret Wilson. The Rams allow 7.8 yards per pass, third-worst in the NFL, and give up 24.1 points per game, 24th in the NFL. If the Rams want to secure their spot in the postseason, their defensive performance this weekend needs to be just as good as it was in week 15, when they held Brock Purdy and the 49ers to just 205 yards of total offense and six points.
