The New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks enter this matchup with vastly different mindsets. The Jets, once seen as playoff contenders, have been one of the biggest disappointments of the season, while the Seahawks have just taken over first place in the NFC West. Seattle is riding high after one of their best defensive performances in recent memory, allowing only six points to a potent Arizona offense and even scoring a defensive touchdown. Meanwhile, the Jets are in freefall after firing head coach Robert Saleh in October and general manager Joe Douglas on November 19th. With the Jets' playoff chances all but finished, it will be telling what team shows up in this matchup and if they can muscle out any more wins this year.

After a season full of anticipation surrounding Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets, the team has fallen well short of expectations, sitting at a dismal 3-8 through 11 games. The offense ranks among the league’s worst, sitting in the bottom five in both Points Per Game (18.5) and Yards Per Game (294.4), despite adding star wide receiver Davante Adams on November 9th. In their most recent game against the Indianapolis Colts, the Jets posted their best offensive output of the season, scoring 27 points (including 20 in the second half), but still couldn’t secure the win. The defense, which was expected to be a strength, has also underperformed, allowing 20+ points in 9 of their 11 games this season. With their playoff hopes all but gone, the Jets are headed for a major offseason overhaul, likely featuring a new head coach, general manager, and possibly a new quarterback.

The Seattle Seahawks find themselves in first place in the NFC West after 12 weeks, a position few would have predicted at the start of the season. While the defending Super Bowl runner-up San Francisco 49ers have faced struggles, the Seahawks have quietly seized control of the division, earning two key victories over division rivals in the last two weeks. Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been one of the surprises of the season for Seattle, recording 755 receiving yards, which ranks 7th in the NFL.

Although the Seahawks’ running game ranks in the bottom five league-wide, their offense has been driven by a pass-heavy attack, with Seattle throwing the ball 64% of the time, the 4th-highest rate in the NFL. Geno Smith leads the league in interceptions but also ranks 2nd in passing yards (3,035) and passing attempts (405) this season, showing the team’s heavy reliance on the passing game. This reliance on the pass should make for an intriguing clash. For as much as this Jets team has struggled, they are still conceding the second-fewest passing yards per game, with 174.9, which could make this a sneaky dangerous spot for Seattle.

They will be desperate for a win here after taking control of the NFC West with a win over the Cardinals last week. They face those same Cardinals again next week, in a game that will have major implications for the division, so the pressure is on. On the other side of things, the New York Jets have been the biggest disappointment of the 2024 season, showing little fight to turn things around outside of a surprising win against the Texans. However, despite their struggles, the Jets are not a team to take lightly. Their offense still boasts playmakers like Breece Hall, who can break for 100 yards at any moment, along with Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams catching passes from future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. If the Seahawks don't bring their A-game, New York could deliver an upset in what has otherwise been a disappointing season for them.
