Pittsburgh vs. Las Vegas | Sunday, October 13, 2024
Pittsburgh thought they would have a big win in Week Six against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys, but it all came crashing down in the fourth quarter, and the Steelers are now on a two-game losing streak after starting the season 3-0. They currently sit at second in the AFC North, and quarterback Justin Fields has been pleasantly surprising thus far.
While Fields and the Steelers' offense have received a lot of attention on social media for their unexpected successes, it's the Steelers' defense that has been really getting the job done. Their run defense, especially, allows just 0.2 rushing touchdowns a game, the second-best in the NFL. TJ Watt and company have also held opponents to just 3.7 yards per rush, ranking third in the NFL in that category.
They'll be lining up against a Raiders offense that has struggled mightily this year and is now turning to a new quarterback in Aidan O’Connell. Minshew, who has started all five games this season, struggled in a recent loss against the Broncos, throwing two interceptions before being benched. Despite a career-high completion rate of 71% this season, he has also thrown five picks. O'Connell, who started ten games as a rookie, aims to seize the opportunity after limited action this season.
The Raiders' offense ranks in the league's bottom half in points scored, passing yards, rushing yards, and touchdowns scored per game. They're also the fourth-worst team in the league at converting fourth downs, with just a 16.67% conversion rate.
The Raiders' defense will also need to step up their game after allowing 34 points to Denver last week, and it is just three weeks removed from a loss against the Panthers, where they let Andy Dalton pass for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. The Raiders have allowed the fourth most points to opponents this year, with 26.2 points allowed per game. They'll also need all the help they can get to stop the Steelers' run game, with Justin Fields already posting over 170 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on the season. The Raiders have allowed 4.9 yards per rush this season, which is the sixth worst in the NFL.
With a questionable offense and unproven quarterback play, the Raiders will need a miraculous defensive performance to get back in the playoff hunt and walk off their home field with a 3-3 record. The Steelers, however, have a chance to move into first place in the AFC North, a place we haven't seen them finish the year since 2020.
