Titans vs. Bills | Sunday, October 20, 2024
The Buffalo Bills are riding high at the top of the AFC East after downing their closest rival, the New York Jets. The Jets have responded to their sticky situation by bringing in superstar wide receiver Davante Adams, and the Bills responded just a few hours later by bringing in a new wide receiver of their own, Amari Cooper.
While Cooper does not bring the same talent level as Adams, he is still exactly what this team needs and a significant upgrade over the previous situation. Keon Coleman is still a rookie and does absolutely not deserve to be written off just yet, but he is not getting the job done on the outside as a separator or a contested catch guy. Amari Cooper can instantly come in and be that number-one target for Josh Allen, instantly bolstering an already strong offense.
Buffalo has suggested that they are not yet sure whether he will suit up for this game, but it is in their best interest to get him ready and into the lineup. Tennessee has struggled mightily this year, but they can at least proudly claim that they are giving up the fewest passing yards per game with 137. Slotting Amari Cooper in will certainly help the Bills move the ball against this stingy defense, easing the pressure on both Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid, and hopefully improving their impact.
Before we move on to the Titans, we also have to give a shout-out to Ray Davis, the rookie running back who enjoyed a breakout game against the New York Jets. He amassed 97 yards on the ground, in addition to bringing in three catches for 55 yards through the air. He surely earned himself a bigger role within this offense, even with James Cook potentially returning.
When Tennessee takes to the field on offense, there is much less to be excited about. Will Levis is looking like one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL, managing just 95 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against an awful, and very injured, Indianapolis defense last week. His lack of effectiveness is causing frustration in the wide receiver room, and you can understand why. It is pretty difficult to see the Titans having any success passing the ball against this Buffalo defense, which has posted the 11th most sacks with 16 and the sixth most interceptions with six. They have been susceptible to giving up yards through the air at times this season, but that shouldn’t be too much of a concern for them this week against Levis.
The one strong point for this Tennessee offense has been their run game, which has produced the ninth most yards per game with 111.8. Tony Pollard has been consistent this year, racking up 339 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, in addition to being a useful contributor through the air. Buffalo is conceding 140 yards on the ground per game, which is 23rd in the NFL, suggesting this could be a game where the Titans lean on their run game.
