Tennessee vs Indianapolis
The Tennessee Titans will continue their difficult season this Sunday, hoping to snap a three-game losing streak, when they visit Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts. Both teams in this one are looking to bounce back after week 15 losses. The Titans are coming off a home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, while the Colts are coming off an embarrassing 31-13 road defeat to the Denver Broncos. The Colts currently have a record of 6-8, sitting at second in the AFC South, but still have some playoff hopes. They will undoubtedly need some help from other teams across the league, but they currently sit at 8th in the AFC, just one spot outside of being in playoff position. The Titans, of course, have a chance to spoil their dreams.
Tennessee will have a tough time playing spoiler with their current offensive situation. If there was any uncertainty amongst Titans fans about whether quarterback Will Levis was "the guy," that question has undoubtedly been answered in 2024. He is not. Levis has appeared in eleven games this season, posting some of the worst numbers among quarterbacks this season. The former Kentucky standout has appeared in eleven games this season and has thrown for 1,916 yards, with 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, paired with a QBR of 30.2 (33rd in the NFL).
This play has resulted in the introduction of backup quarterback Mason Rudolph, who is expected to get the start against the Colts this Sunday. Rudolph threw for 209 yards, two touchdowns, and just one interception in the Titan's week 15 loss to the Bengals. He should have a solid chance at continuing his good play this week against a Colts defense that allows 311.4 yards of total offense per game, ranking 21st in the NFL. And if Rudolph and the Titans’ passing game can establish some respect from Colt's defense, it should open up lanes for running back Tony Pollard to have himself a day.
The Colts are one of the worst defenses in the league at stopping the run, allowing 141.6 rushing yards per game, 30th in the NFL. Pollard, who had only 45 yards on the ground in week 15, has totaled 982 rushing yards on the season, good for eighth among running backs. He is also just 18 yards short of his third straight 1,000-yard season, a feat we can expect him to reach in this Sunday's matchup.
For the Colts offense, we can expect them to utilize their run game as well. Their ground attack, led by Jonathon Taylor and quarterback Anthony Richardson, has fueled their offense throughout the first 15 weeks. Indianapolis averages 120.9 rushing yards per game, 13th in the NFL, and scores an average of .9 rushing touchdowns per game, 13th best in the league. Their passing attack, however, has been subpar, averaging just 190.4 yards per game through the air, 27th in the NFL.
This is a must-win game for the Colts if Richardson wants to help lead his team to their first playoff berth since 2020. And who knows, he might even get his first postseason win as an NFL quarterback.
